The Hvar Away Founders

Hvar Away was founded by husband-and-wife duo, Matt and Elisha.

An Oxford-educated world traveller, Elisha heads up operations, guest services, and outreach. Originally from Poland, Matt (Maciej) is a skilled tradesman and former strength building coach, and keeps Hvar Away properties in top shape all year round. Together, they fell in love with the beauty and heritage of Hvar and set out to build a life on this small island by helping other visitors experience the island’s magic. With complementary skillsets and an international perspective, Elisha and Matt invite you to a superlative sojourn in one of the world’s most beautiful places.

Choosing Hvar As Home

In 2020, the covid pandemic meant that the lives of many people took a transformative turn – and for Matt and Elisha, that was certainly the case. They took a leap of faith, bidding farewell to the U.K. in pursuit of a new life in Croatia. They had only visited once before, six months prior, but if there's one thing Matt and Elisha have in common it's that they're not phased by big, spontaneous decisions.

It was never in their plans to start a company on Hvar, but they like to think that it was in the island's plans for them with the serendipitous sequence of events that led to the creation of Hvar Away. They soon realised that together, they could start laying the foundations of something truly unique.

Elisha and Matt set out to create more than just a travel agency; they sought to curate a collection of premium properties that would allow visitors to discover the true magic of this small island. Yet, they believe it's their unwavering commitment to their cherished guess that truly distinguishes Hvar Away.
